"This has been a huge opportunity to do something I never dreamed I would be able to do. It has allowed me to give 'free rein' to my imagination and been fun to do."

MONDAY NIGHT GROUP
Large-scale Posters and Banner Making
Jan Nimmo

Artist Jan Nimmo worked with the Monday Night Group on a variety of art and craft activities designed to suit the range of abilities of the young people involved. The workshops gave the young people an opportunity to explore colour and texture through working with a variety of materials and techniques, often combining several materials and techniques in one piece.

The group has produced a large and vibrant collection of work including a group textile piece using fabric collage, and individual textile pieces inspired by prayer flags and papel picado after looking at a selection of inspirational images of art and crafts from Tibet to Mexico. Participants made a series of colourful paintings on wooden board which some built up the colour and texture using collage. Participants also explored monochrome mark-making and paper mosaics in smaller pieces on wooden board. The group created a transparent banner made up of individual laminated sections containing collages of natural materials, such as leaves, and tissue paper. Finally the group created a series of individually decorated sets of drawers.
