'The Old and the New'

Artist Jennie Temple has been working with BandF to create a hand-made book. She states:

“BandF have been taking a trip into the past and have looked at how Barrhead and Neilston have changed over the years. The book contains old images of the area, which members have interpreted in their own way using a variety of media. The text accompanying the images explains the history of Barrhead and Neilston from both a very personal and historic account. The aim of the project was to provide an informative explanation of the area’s history; this was largely prompted by a lack of existing material to be found in the library and archives. The text has evolved from conversations between members covering area such as:

  • Work - What were the main industries? How has this changed?
  • Leisure – What were the main social activities?
  • Physical change – What buildings no longer exist?
  • Barrhead during the war – how did the war affect residents?

The conversations have provided a lively and personal account of Barrhead and Neilston’s past. The book, titled 'The Old and the New' also contains a map guide to buildings and places that no longer exist”.
