"The project was informative and good fun. By working with the artists I have learned how to expand my imagination. It was very enjoyable, and nice to meet new people."

Jonathan Owen completes commission

for Barrhead Sports Centre

January 2006

"The images in the main mural are fragments from the window-grille sculptures, selected for their resemblance to letters/characters in an unknown alphabet.  They are painted, arranged in a horizontal line, each held out by an anonymous hand, as though spelling out a proverb, motto or slogan.  What appears to be a piece of rhetoric, in a classical language, is illegible on closer inspection, the broken remnants of a useless security measure.

The smaller mural, also on a white background, depicts a laurel wreath cut out in the same manner as the grille sculpture and held aloft, again by an anonymous hand.  This image appeared on a number of occasions in the paintings I made with the members of the Unity Enterprise group."
