ABOUT BASIS
Welcome to BASIS - Barrhead Art and Social Inclusion Strategy - an Art and Social Inclusion initiative developed by Barrhead Housing Association, working in association with East Renfrewshire Council and advised and coordinated by arts consultants Art in Partnership.
Barrhead Housing Association (BHA) provides quality, affordable, rental housing across East Renfrewshire. Through the BASIS project they also deliver a ‘Wider Role’ programme, focusing on their Mission Statement: “Building and Sustaining our Community for a Better Future”.
The BASIS project creates opportunities for local groups to take part in artist-led workshops. The workshops enable individuals to tackle a range of issues and aim to: encourage personal self confidence and self esteem, the acquisition of new skills and interaction with other people and groups in the local area; improve employment prospects; and assist in creating a positive public profile for the community group involved.
For more information about the different phases of BASIS use the links above. For the latest on the BASIS project visit our News Page.
Pictures and videos of BASIS workshops and their outcomes can be seen on the screens run by Barrhead Housing Association in Barrhead and Neilston libraries and other community venues.
BASIS Phase 1 was made possible through funding from the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Access and Participation Scheme and The Scottish Government’s Wider Role Fund. The success of this initial phase enabled funding to be secured for Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4 from The Scottish Government’s Wider Role Fund. Funding from the Big Lottery Young People's Fund and The Scottish Government’s Wider Role Fund has enabled BASIS to fund its programme up to 2010, see Big Lottery.
Communities Scotland is the Scottish Executive housing and regeneration agency. It is supportive of the Art in Partnership Project and has assisted the project financially through providing funding from its Wider Role budget.
